Psalms 51:1-10

I put a stain on a cloth & asked one of my ladies to rub it & another one to put some soap on it. Then i asked ... Are either one of these clean? Ok so i want us to think about what everything represents:

What does ……. represent?

  • the cloth our lives

  • the stain the sin in our lives

  • the soap God’s love & grace

  • the shaking our repentance

So back to the stain. Did either on of you get it clean? NO

Does our repentance alone clean the stain of sin? NO

God gives us His grace & love, does that alone clean our stain of sin? It COULD, but that is not His plan. (we will discuss this some more in a minute)

Now soap person - share some soap.

Rubber - rub both.

What do you see?

It takes our repentance AND God’s grace to clean our lives from sin because that is the way He planned it. Many want to say that we don’t need deeds. Ok - that’s another lesson. But some things are NOT deeds, but actions of obedience and this is one of those things. As is prayer & baptism. It isn’t that God doesn’t have the power to make all things happen. It’s that He has asked us to do our parts. He wants it to be our choice to have a clean heart - to serve Him.

Sin isn’t just a character flaw that we need to overcome, but it is an action against God. Psalms 51:4 “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.” Sin is creating that stain in our life - it is going against God’s design for our life. Do you have a favorite outfit? what do you do if you get something one it? ……. Do we do that with our lives? or do we let it set in? We can choose to let that stain set in or we can get to work on cleaning it. Some stains may be tougher than others.

I hope that every time you clean now, you will be reminded to wash your soul as well.
